AWT a partner of a newly established Railway Worker apprenticeship

International transport company Advanced World Transport (AWT), member of the PKP CARGO Group, after several months of preparations, discussions with representatives of the Moravian-Silesian Region and secondary schools in the Region, received a decision of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, stating that effective from 1. 9. 2019, a three-year apprenticeship 37-52-H/01 Railway Worker is registered at the Secondary School of Technology and Transport in Ostrava-Vítkovice.

Now AWT with the cooperation of the Secondary School of Technology and Transport is going to participate in the creation of Curriculum, which is based on a General Curriculum established by the Ministry.

„Opening of the Railway Worker apprenticeship is very positive for us because this type of secondary school study has long been missing and with the cooperation of AWT, new experts can grow in the railway field, which has a great tradition here,” says Maciej Walczyk, Chairman of AWT Board of Directors.

The Railway Worker apprenticeship is a suitable alternative to the current field of study with a school-leaving examination named Operations and Economics in Transport. Graduates of the Railway Worker apprenticeship should make up for the shortage of people in this profession that the transport companies have to deal with in the long term.

“Thanks to practical training, which is part of the proposed curriculum and which will take place in AWT facilities, the apprentices will have ideal opportunities to test their knowledge in real railway traffic and at the same time get practical experience that they can use in their jobs after finishing school,” says Jaromír Sládeček, COO Of AWT.

“In the Group companies we put great emphasis on human resources and we are able to train employees for key railway positions in the accredited training center. Nevertheless in the long term, like other companies, we have been also dealing with the shortage of people in some specialized and technical positions, therefore we very much welcome the opening of the new Railway Worker apprenticeship,“ adds Žaneta Sigmundová, CHRO of AWT.

The company is going to promote the new apprenticeship and get potential students at various events and fairs that are organized for those who want to study secondary schools. Event calendar, current job openings or possibilities of students’ involvement in the AWEŤÁK project are available on websites kariera.awt.eu and www.awetak.eu.
