On 3 September 2020, Slovenian company Primol-Rail from the PKP CARGO INTERNATIONAL Group has realized the transportation of the first two container trains through the modernized crossing in Hodoš between Slovenia and Hungary with their own multisystem Vectron locomotives.
On 2 September 2020, the modernized track, which allows the passing of trains with axie loads (pressure) D4, i.e. 22.5 tonnes per axle, was open in border crossing of Hodoš, Slovenia. In the past, this section allowed transitivity of only 20 tons per axle. This change now allows the PKP CARGO INTERNATIONAL Group to fully utilize the potential of the Vectron locomotives acquired last year, as the modernization of this track allows the Group to realize the train transport to/from Slovenia and Italy without having to change the locomotive on the Hungarian-Slovenian border. Therefore, the transit time of shipments will be significantly shortened. At the same time, the full potential of loading trucks can also be used.
The PKP CARGO Group, a leading rail carrier and logistics operator in Europe, is consistently developing its competences and logistics alliance in the Three Seas region.
One of the pillars of the strategy for the period 2019-2023 is further commercial development in the Three Seas region. Further investments in intermodal transport, intermodal platforms, multi-system locomotives and infrastructure construction are planned.
“The development of intermodal transport in the Three Seas region (Baltic – Adriatic – Black Sea) in the north-south direction is among the strategic objectives across the PKP CARGO Group. Thanks to the modernization of crossing in Hodoš we can operate transport in the entire section with our locomotives and on our own license, i.e. carriage of a train on the entire section is only implemented by PKP CARGO INTERNATIONAL Group. We will provide even faster transport and logistics services to our customers in the european north-south corridor,” says Maciej Walczyk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PKP CARGO INTERNATIONAL.
The development of transport between North and South is to be implemented, inter alia, by Rail Baltica, which is part of the Trans-European Transport Corridor.
The Primol-Rail company, which is a member of the PKP CARGO INTERNATIONAL Group from 2018, provides comprehensive services to rail freight customers and carries out transport of the Group on the Slovenian section.
