PKP CARGO – the largest railway freight transport company in Poland and second largest in Europe decided to take the opportunity to buy 5 multisystem Vectron locomotives. The value of the contract signed today, including maintenance, is almost 112 million Polish zloty. The locomotives are designated for international routes in the north-south corridor. The first locomotives will be handed over to PKP CARGO in the middle of the year.
Modern locomotives Vectron MS are designed for freight transport and their power is 6.4 MW, maximum speed 160 km/h and they are equipped with the ETCS system. They are approved for transport in Poland, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary, whereas the Vectron platform vehicles can be operated in up to 18 European countries.
In September 2015, PKP CARGO bought 15 Vectron MS locomotives with the right to buy another five vehicles. In January this year the company decided to use this extended opportunity.

„By purchasing the multisystem locomotives Vectron we implement a development strategy of the PKP CARGO Group, one of the goals of which is to get a leading position on the market of Three-Seas countries where the European north-south corridor runs. This purchase is also a response to market needs and dynamically growing intermodal transport, whose annual percentage growth in the last few years was in two-digit numbers,” stated Czesław Warsewicz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PKP CARGO S.A.
In a few years the company Siemens Mobility has sold over 800 Vectron locomotives to 41 clients. The vehicles delivered have driven almost 170 million kilometers. In Poland, Vectrons are driven in the colors of PKP CARGO, DB Cargo Poland and Lotos Kolej (rented from Industrial Division). A total of 44 Vectron locomotives have been purchased in Poland.
